Brightness: choose for readability, not a headline number

Survey light and reflections, then test real content by day and night.

The archived LG 49XE4F-B UAE specification lists 4,000 cd/m² typical brightness and 3,200 cd/m² minimum brightness. Use these as model-specific figures when reading an outdoor-display specification, then agree the installed daylight, dimming and thermal demonstration.

Separate emitted light from visible information

A display can emit a great deal of light while a reflected window or a poorly designed template hides the message. Observe the installed screen from the real audience position, not just directly in front of it. Test the smallest important text and the colors that carry meaning. Record the content, exposure and viewing point with the result. Treat a data-sheet brightness value as one input to this decision, not the acceptance result itself.

Document the installed optical arrangement

Identify whether the panel is inside a shop window, behind an enclosure cover or open to the environment. Extra glazing changes the conditions that the viewer and the hardware experience. Ask the supplier to approve the exact arrangement and explain any brightness control. For outdoor projects, coordinate optical and thermal decisions: a specification for maximum brightness does not resolve enclosure cooling, direct sun or safe service access.

Agree behavior across the operating day

A setting that works in midday light may be uncomfortable at night. Ask how automatic or scheduled brightness works and what happens if a sensor fails. Test the dimmed content, not just the maximum setting, and check that key information remains readable. Local lighting restrictions, where applicable, require a project review; this guide does not supply a legal limit. Record the approved settings and who is authorized to change them.

Procurement checklist

  • Do not invent a universal nit requirement.
  • Test real bilingual content.
  • Record optical and thermal conditions to check.
  • Approve the day/night control method.
VERIFY IN PRACTICE

A practical acceptance task

Observe the same approved message in representative daylight and evening conditions from the required viewing positions. Record whether its key information is readable and whether controls reach the agreed state. Keep a photo and the settings as evidence, not as a substitute for the observations.
