Compare display technologies by viewing distance, smallest content, shape, installation and service. An LCD video wall uses multiple panels; a direct-view LED system uses emitting modules. Neither label proves suitability by itself. Request a demonstration of the proposed configuration and compare mounting, processing, calibration, power and maintenance as part of the full system.
Start with content and geometry
Write down the smallest text, nearest and furthest audience positions and the intended display shape. A large advertising surface and a close-viewed control dashboard have different needs. Ask to see real content on the proposed module or panel configuration. For a tiled LCD system, review whether panel boundaries cut through text or key information. For direct-view LED, evaluate the proposed pixel layout at the actual viewing distance rather than choosing from a slogan about scale.
Include the surrounding system
Compare structure, signal processing, playback, power distribution and access together. The physical wall and the source content may have different proportions; agree how material is scaled and whether cropping is acceptable. Ask how modules or panels are calibrated and replaced, and what visual difference may remain after replacement. Require the supplier to list every item excluded from the proposal, especially installation access and any building modifications.
Plan the fault you will eventually service
Ask whether service is from the front or the rear and verify the required clearance in the drawings. Define the spare strategy for the exact offered configuration and ask how later replacements are matched. A narrow service route can change the feasible solution even when the display fits the wall. Structural and electrical design need appropriately qualified review. Do not convert a demonstration into a claim of long-term reliability without model-specific evidence and a service agreement.
Compare requirements
| Project condition | Focus | Evidence to request |
|---|---|---|
| Single LCD | Defined panel format | Readability and mounting |
| Tiled LCD wall | Multiple panels | Boundaries, alignment and replacements |
| Direct-view LED | LED modules forming the display surface | Viewing distance, processing and service |
Procurement checklist
- Bring the smallest important content.
- Compare complete installed scope.
- Review service access in drawings.
- Document spare matching and calibration.
A practical acceptance task
Review a representative installation or mock-up with the actual content. Inspect key text across seams, scaling behavior and readability from the nearest and furthest required positions. Ask the supplier to demonstrate a replacement procedure before approving the service plan.
